Dealership History

It was at the age of 21 when I set a goal to own a car dealership before reaching the age of 30. At 29, that goal was achieved. Here is how it began.

September 1, 1989 was the day my wife and I started Vulcan Ford Sales Inc., our son Zach was only 6 weeks old and we had just moved from Calgary. It seems like it was only yesterday when I stood in the middle of the dealership showroom staring at four walls and a pile of debris in the middle.

Many changes have happened since then, in 1995 we built a new facility in Vulcan, along the way we won numerous Customer Satisfaction,Sales and Service awards, but it hasn't stopped there. On January 15, 2005 we purchased the Ford Dealership in Strathmore, 20 minutes east of Calgary on the Trans Canada Highway, and renamed both our dealerships Byron Smith Ford.

I have now been in the automotive industry for 27 years, and it seems like such a short time ago.
I started in this business as an apprentice Partsman, became a Journeyman Partsman, Parts Manager, and then moved on to become a Service Manager, then General Sales Manager, all at various GM dealerships. This helped build the foundation of knowledge I would need to complete my goal to own our dealership.

I owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to the people I worked with, and for over the years and trust that your experience with us will be embraced in our "Customers-for-Life" philosophy and culture I was brought up with.

I would like to thank you, our customers for helping make us one of the Largest Rural Ford Dealerships in Southern Alberta.
